CHRISTENINGS AND BAPTISMS

There is no difference between a Christening service or a Baptism service.  Some churches will use the word ‘baptism’ and some the word ‘christening’. The moment when your child has water poured or wiped on their head is the actual baptism and is at the heart of the service.

This baptism marks a public beginning to a journey with God that continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. For all involved, particularly the children being baptized but also parents, godparents, and sponsors, it is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, make serious promises and declare our faith in God.

At All Saints,  as the parish church of Creeksea, we are very happy to baptise anyone, adult or infant that approaches us for baptism. For babies and children, we suggest that the family joins us at our regular Family or Play and Praise services. During one of these services, we will give thanks to God for the child and give a copy of one of the four Gospels from the Bible to the parents and also a special Baptism Cube to the child. The Cube is a very simple way of showing children what Baptism is all about.

The baptism takes place a short time after this thanksgiving, either in the Sunday morning service or a service on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.  The newly baptised child is then welcomed into the church family at the next family or Play & Praise Service.

If you are interested in being Baptised yourself or in having your child Christened, then please do contact Revd Vera Wadman or join us at one of our child friendly services. There is also a pre-school and carers group – The Bartholomew Bear Club – which meets on Friday mornings in school term time.  Run by Alice Harvey it gives an opportunity to meet other local families with children of a similar age.
